Product Designer @ National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) via Coriell
🔧 I started as an embedded engineer in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), then pivoted fully into UX. With no formal design education, I was admitted to Purdue University's master's program in UX Design on the strength of my portfolio alone, and fully funded by both the School of Engineering and the School of Business. 🎓 At Purdue, I was Design Lead of the Product Management Club, ran social media for the School of Engineering, taught in EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service), where student teams from freshmen to seniors design real solutions for nonprofits, and mentored business school students on design projects. I also secured funding to build my own project, and worked with Indiana startups and Microsoft. 🧬 Today I'm a Product Designer at Coriell, a growing nonprofit biobank in Philadelphia recently awarded an NIH grant. I build a genomic research platform in partnership with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and I lead the move from legacy systems to modern ones without disrupting what already works. 🌏 Originally from Bangalore, Karnataka (and happy to chat in Kannada), I know firsthand what it takes to navigate a career pivot, a move to a new country, and a tough job search. I'm glad to share what I've learned, including how to network with confidence.
