Mentor designers, on your terms
Hop is the mentorship home of Design Buddies, a community of 100K+ designers. Your experience could be someone's breakthrough: about an hour a month, with people we've vetted by hand.

Questions mentors ask
How much time does mentoring on Hop actually take?+
About an hour a month for most mentors. You set your own availability, so you only get booked during hours you've opened up. There's no minimum session count and no schedule imposed on you.
How much can I charge as a design mentor on Hop?+
Whatever you think your time is worth. Mentors set their own price per session type, offer sessions for free, or mix both (a free intro chat next to a paid portfolio review). Hop keeps a 10% fee on paid sessions and Stripe keeps a 2.9% + 30 cent processing fee. Payouts go straight to your bank via Stripe.
Do I have to accept every booking request?+
No. Every booking on Hop is a request, not an instant reservation. You review who's asking and why before you accept or decline, and nothing lands on your calendar without your yes.
Does Hop record my sessions or use them to train AI?+
No on both. Hop never records, transcribes, or listens to your sessions: we generate the meeting link and that is where our involvement ends. Session notes and action items exist only if you or your mentee type them, they stay private to the two of you, and we do not sell them, share them with third parties, or use them to train AI models. Hop does use AI in one visible place, matching a mentee's written request to mentor profiles, and that only ever reads public profile information.
How is Hop different from ADPList for mentors?+
Hop is curated and small by design, not an open directory. Every mentor and mentee is reviewed by hand before they can book or be booked, so there are no cold DMs, no spam requests, and no unvetted no-shows. Mentors can also charge for deeper sessions like portfolio reviews, so serious time stays sustainable instead of unpaid volunteer work.
What kind of mentees will I actually get on Hop?+
Vetted, serious designers: people who applied, were reviewed, and described exactly what they're stuck on before they ever see your profile. Hop's matching surfaces you specifically for needs your experience fits, like portfolio reviews, interview prep, promotion strategy, or breaking into the industry.
What does it mean to be a founding mentor on Hop?+
Mentors who join by August 31, 2026 get a permanent Founding mentor badge on their profile, first pick of who they help, and direct input into how the community and product evolve. It's a one-time window that closes after that date.
What do I need to apply as a Hop mentor?+
Real design experience: you've hired, reviewed portfolios, mentored, or led a design team. The application takes about 5 minutes: tell Hop about your background and how you'd help, and every application is reviewed by hand.
Can I stop mentoring on Hop whenever I want?+
Yes. You control your own availability and can close it at any time, pause your profile, or step away entirely. There's no contract or minimum commitment.
