Yes, if you pick someone who has already done the specific thing you are trying to do. A good mentor compresses months of trial and error into a few conversations: they have seen dozens of portfolios, interviews, and promotions go right and wrong. A mismatched mentor, or generic advice, is not worth it, which is why fit matters more than fame.
